ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 168/7-148 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 34 mm, 16.97 g, 12 h). Head of youthful Dionysos to right, wearing tainia and wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. HΡAKΛEOΥΣ - ΣΩTHΡOΣ / ΘAΣIΩN Herakles standing front, head to left, holding club in his right hand and with lion's skin draped over his left arm and quiver over his shoulder; in inner left field, monogram of ΔΙ. Boston MFA 869. Gulbenkian 891. Prokopov Group II, 19 (V B1/R 17). A very attractive coin of particularly fine late Hellenistic style. Slightly rough and with very minor marks, otherwise, about extremely fine.
